In this two-part workshop Helen will show you how to create a simple silk painting.
No experience is needed.

Your Tutor:
Helen Vale originally qualified with a BA Hons in Fashion and Textiles at Cheltenham and Gloucester college of Art.
She spent 6 years as a fashion designer in industry before training to become a secondary school Art teacher.
Recently retiring from 32 years teaching every aspect of art education including Fine Art, Printing, Textiles and Sculpture and leading the art education on four very different schools, she now exploring her own artistic pursuits.
Session One:
You will be shown how to:
Design your decorative landscape, (templates of designs will be provided to personalise for those who would like the extra support). You could bring a photos of your favourite landscapes to inspire you.
Transfer your design to silk and use gutter to out line your design , tips and examples on ideal techniques for a successful design will be given based on your individual ideas.
Examples of painting techniques will be demonstrated - mixing, blending, water marks for decoration and using rock salt for additional textural interest will be explored to realise and embellish your initial designs. All paints are water based and can be fixed permanently once your landscape is completed.
Session Two:
You will be advised on:
Completing your painting, adding further interest , layering up colour to create a sense of light or three dimensional qualities.
How to fix your painting using an iron.
Given time - aspects of your design can be further enhanced in this session using hand stitched embroidery, strengthening your work for display and/ or embroidery using interfacing and a variety of threads will be available to embroider your design .
Examples of embroidery stitches will be on display and demonstrations given as required on how to achieve the different stitches .
To complete the session - display ideas for individual pieces will be discussed.
Numbers for the two sessions will be limited so that there is plenty of opportunity for individual support and tuition.
